August 31st Update

We are learning that having a baby in the NICU can often feel like two steps forward and one step back. We were excited by how much Cordelia’s non-invasive ventilator settings were being weaned, but after a couple troublesome days with multiple events* she was reintubated again yesterday morning. Tests were run to see if she might have had an infection, but nothing was conclusive. A short course of precautionary antibiotics was done just in case.

Cordelia had been on a fantastic run but it’s not too surprising for backslides like this to happen and we remain ever optimistic. And now that she is back on the traditional ventilator Cordelia is doing better and is able to get more rest. One silver lining is that we can see more of her cute little head like this. Mom and Dad continue to get daily skin to skin time with her and she has gained a touch more weight, currently at 820 grams.

*events = significant enough dips in heart rate or oxygen levels that the nurses add it to their reports
